You already know the importance given by oriental culture to physical and mental balance, which both always go hand-in-hand in any discipline that comes from Asia, like our Wanderlust Asia.

Tai Chi is a martial art that originated in Imperial China as a way of fighting. However, its teachings seek a harmony between body and mind that not only helps us get in shape but that also develops our personality and helps us know ourselves better.

According to the grand masters of Tai Chi, the movements allow energies to flow through our body, unblocking them and so preventing numerous illnesses and complaints. We can’t assure that, but we can be certain of other benefits that are strongly proven.

One of its benefits is that meditation plays a key role in this practice, making it an excellent way of removing everyday stress using body relaxation, breathing and concentration techniques.

This and the possibility of doing it outdoors in the park has enabled it to gain in popularity and be taken up by older people, who find in Tai Chi a way of exercising without over-exertion. It’s also ideal for anyone who is physically out of condition as a first step towards more demanding exercises as you get back into shape. As well as the activity, its movements improve elasticity, so it helps prevent muscle pains and combats arthritis.

As the movements are gentle, its cardiovascular effect is moderate, although as it’s aerobic exercise, it will help you control your blood pressure.

By strengthening the upper and lower body, it will benefit your back, which will be further reinforced as you strengthen the lower back muscles.
